Yowch…I’ve been reading the media reports all around about the tragedy in Indonesia and the general Southeast Pacific region…The death toll is expected to rise above 100,000 people, according to this BBC news article. Absolutely terrible. Our government is sending about $40 million over there i think…which doesn’t seem like a terribly vast sum.
What made me think of writing this, oddly enough, was reading in the Business section of today’s SF Chronicle that Steve Jobs has a healthy 74.8 million dollar salary. That was after seeing Apple’s website with the usually snappy homepage completely devoid of anything computer related..It’s all about helping and donating for the relief efforts. I don’t know if Jobs had anything to do with it, but its a nice touch. I wonder if he has sent any of his cash..

You know, I was wondering a similar thing this morning. If a bunch of movie stars got together, they could donate more money that the US is contributing. Surely there are 40 movie stars who can afford to part with a cool $2 mil. That would result in twice as much as the US is giving. $40 million does not seem like much and, while our efforts are certainly bifrucated too much already, we should be able to give more than that. Damn it, I need to put my money where my mouth is now…
