The “A” square is the same color as the “B” square.. Impossible to believe but its true. My color picker turns out both squares as color #787878 .. Simply amazing.
Have a look at the creator’s site for explanations etc. I’m also a big fan of this one: The Kofka Ring.

So in theory you could probably make a fairly detailed photograph (high resolution) using only three colours with certain shapes of the middle colour overlayed and positioned differently. That’d be a neat project.

Well, you’re the photographer! I’d love to see that, if you ever get around to it.

I got taken away before I could comment last time, and basically what I was going to say was I didn’t believe they were the same colour. I don’t even believe my colour picker

I looked at the proof section, with the bars of color connecting the three squares, and I *still* don’t believe it. Yes, when I really look at it, I can see that the three squares and the bars are all the same color, but the middle one still appears “lighter” than the other two. Thanks for the headache.

Oh god, have I got a “treat” for you. Probably about a year and a half ago or so, I found this same illusion, and was amazed to find it true. So after I tired of the color picker test, I made a little movie in an attempt to show it was true (plus I was bored, you’ll see).
After making the first movie (which was terrible and pointless) I made a second movie (which attempted to be even more terrible and, if you can believe it, even more pointless).
Lucky for everyone the internet (or the 1 person that accidentally found the movies while googling for porn), I just converted the page into a WordPress page, for all the enjoy.
Note: The second movie is techincally not work-safe.

Okay that “illusion” thingy is pretty creepy. It just shows what a computer can do! I myself LOVE illusions, and i must say this one is definatly a what the ****! Pardon my French… And my spelling. :b

Squint and they appear the same color. Or look indirectly at it. Its the darker shaded squares that are also hard to notice.

It’s not computers, it’s our brain fooling us with the context of each square. I’d blame my eyes, but they’re just input devices…
Geez, that was geeky.
