New Design

Because everything is temporary

This site has been squeezed into some new trousers! I was really unsatisfied with the clutter of the last design, and how everything had a dropshadow and rounded corners etc. This design is a vast simplification and beautification. Please, tell me what you think of it.

I’m fairly certain I’ve broken things here and there, so let me know if you find anything in need of fixing.
Suggestions welcome.

I’m the first commenter, testing things out! Wow, this is gorgeous.

Nice theme. I like it a lot. Very clean.

I liked the old one better…this one lacks color, but I do like how the recent comments section notes which posts the comments are made to. …I was a bit confused by the # of comments for the post at the top of the post.

I still love the red. I’m glad you retained that from the old design. I also like how the sidebar is laid out. Although now, it looks busier. The previous design gave the reader the option to just open which menu options they wanted using the drop-down function. I also like the containers. I just don’t see a smooth transition from the header to the content and then down to the footer. Overall, it looks nice.

It looks busier!? doh!
I have a feeling its the recent comments that’s clouding it up a lot. Everything else in the sidebar is pretty neat.

I think I’ve got it identical in major browsers, which is an improvement over last time.

Think I should reinstate the draggable/collapsible boxes from the previous version?

Thanks for all the input

I like this new design. Neat and well organized. The red header and footer is simple great. The old one is abit busy with too many block of boxes. This is my preference.
Good job Andrew.

Will you be updating your Crimson Milk WP Theme as well?

Ahh.. I c… I like the design, over all, but I got confused because Im used to seeing the comments under a post, not above it…

It’s great :)
I do not like red, but this theme is really cool :)

I definitely am against all the little things that are encouraging me to comment, like the heading that says “Don’t be shy,” or the button I have to push to comment that says “have your say.” Makes you sound like you’re trying to abduct me, or trying to get me to join your cult.

I definitely prefer the “go away” to the old “leaving?”

There, I’ve fixed it up for you. Like it?

Wow, really nice. I found your site while I was browsing for a poll plugin for WordPress. The old theme didn’t work 100% with IE at work but worked perfectly with Firefox at home. I’ll have to check back once I’m home from work to make sure Firefox still works ;)

One thing I noticed with the new design, though, is the odd width of the comment box (see http://www.gonad.org/upload/images/jalenack.jpg ). I’m running 1024×768 with IE 6. Also, when I go to a particular article/section (eg http://blog.jalenack.com/archives/democracy/ ) it’s giving me horizontal and vertical scroll bars around the main body of the page (you can see the vertical one in the image I linked). Yes, I have too much time on my hands.

I really like changing verb after the person’s name in the comments.. great idea, I want to steal it :P

Justin, thanks for the notes. I’ve tweaked around the CSS and hopefully that fixed the problems IE was having, and the vertical scrollbars. The old theme has some differences between IE and FF, mostly because IE didn’t support the things I wanted to do, so I patched it over.

You can grab the verb changer here: http://code.jalenack.com/

Oh neat, I didn’t even realize the verbs were based on the name commenting, I thought it was random. That’s even better! Thanks.

I hope I’m not anonying you, but I noticed a few more things :D

This is the comments/poll part of the main page:

geez. Clean as Crystal. Congrats. The layout breathes space and calm. Ordered and very Zen ;)
Great job.

nice theme , I like it … its already to distribution?

There seems to be a problem with the categorie area where each categorie will only show the first four posts in that categorie, and there’s no obvious way to access the rest of the posts in that categorie.

I see the slider got the ax, thought I can’t complain, I never liked it much. It seemed to me that it didn’t take much more work to scroll to the top of the page and click home there.

Fixx0red! I’ve made a ton of style changes to the theme and added some functionality. Fun shiz! Oh yeah, and I made a post.

8:04 am on 8/25/2005 21. Sadish

Wow.

This one really looks neat and tidy.

Yeah, as one of the other commenters said, I would like to have a ‘comment on this post’ link to be at the bottom of the post.

Good work !

Hello I must say this is a very nice blog you have here and the comments are very interesting as well. Being an internet afficionado I am constantly seeking out new sources of information like this one. While I am currently doing some research, I would also like to intimate the readers of this blog about the ongoing drive to sell out the internet to the big communications companies. I am part of a pressure group that would appreciate it if readers would help spread the word about this so we can maintain the intergrity of the internet as a free resource for the world. Thanks for helping to spread the word and being a resource for my work. Cheers and keep up the good work.
