As a baseball umpire I get all kinds of crap. I've even had to stand between two coaches before because they were fighting (verbally). I told them both if they didn't stop they were going to be both ejected. One good thing is the board members have really stepped up this year and begun to stay around the diamonds in order to keep the insults to a minimum. I say just try to ignore the fans, but don't always let the coaches be right, just don't argue with them. For example, a coach one time complained to that there was interference, and during the next half-inning break I pulled out my rulebook quickly flipped to the proper section and then showed the coach. He wasn't as understanding as I expected, and still tried to find a way around the rule, but I just let it go because I knew he was wrong, and I wasn't going to mess with it. About the insults to my partner. I hate it when a coach insults my partner, and the horrible thing is sometimes I know these coaches and their sons/daughters and sometimes them personally. I hate to see how these people act, its horrible. Just kindly tell them you are both doing the best that you can and hope they appreciate that.
