Finals - Striking Fear In the Hearts of all High Schoolers

on January 19th, 2005 ( 3 )

except me-

Lets just say that I am a strange one. Maybe it’s because I am currently a freshman, or maybe it’s just because I’m taking hellishly easy classes, but I am not in the least bit worried about finals. I have maybe spent half an hour …total… studying for all of my three tests that are occuring this week. I am about to take my Geometry Honors final in about 10-15 minutes, and I am in homeroom, with a perfect opportunity to study and am I studying? No, instead I’m writing about how I’m not studying. I’m just not worried about this final. It probably helps that I could get 50% on it and still get an A in the class…but I have higher standards that that. Maybe it sounds like I’m bragging a bit much…actually it definitely does…but I’m just voicing my opinions on finals and studying.
No.1: Cramming….is dumb….duh….especially for classes such as math, you know it or you don’t. If you haven’t been able to learn it in the say 4 months you’ve been in class- you’re not going to learn it in one hour with a book.
No.2: It doesn’t affect your grade all that much. If it does, there’s an issue…
No.3: Good luck everyone!~ (I just had to put that in)

Yes I understand why some people spend all night studying their tails off and yeah I guess maybe it helps some people. Someday I am going to look back on this post and think, “wow, was I stupid back then or what?” because I will be in the process of studying for some big test that will majorly affect my grade. However, CRAMMING is not a good thing, and that will be maintained. As a result, I am off to math…hoping for the best :)

Canibalism

on January 2nd, 2005 ( 40 )

Andrew back to the canibal thing…I can’t help that im intruiged by this topic!

Take this situation: A society lives in an isolated area. This society is split into three groups, the A’s, the B’s, and the C’s. You go an A household for dinner and you wonder what they are eating. They tell you that they are eating B meat… Do they hunt them? no. Are they at war? no. This is just how the society works. The A’s eat the B’s, the B’s eat the C’s, and the C’s eat the A’s. And they’re all happy…

Now awaiting angry responses that I’m a lunatic…

Ishmael

on January 2nd, 2005 ( 15 )

Has anyone read Ishmael by Daniel Quinn. It’s this book about a man and a gorrilla talking about the fate of the human species that I’ve probably told quite a few of you about (Andrew…this is where the Big Dig cannibal idea came from). It has a lot of great ideas which would be interesting for discussion, so if anyone has read it, speak up! It’s a lot less work for me if I don’t have to explain everything first.

A lot of this book is about how the human race is going to crash and burn. We may not realize it now, but our society is not working. We are now in a downward spiral and are not accomplishing much. The author uses the analogy of one of those first people who tried to build an airplane. He launches off a cliff and soars, not realizing that he is not actually flying until he hits the ground. Are we not like that as well? This airplane builder didn’t know how to build an airplane because he didn’t know the laws of aerodynamics. We don’t know how to properly build a society because we don’t know the laws of …well building a proper society. Thats enough to get plenty of people started I think…

Post Numero Uno

on December 30th, 2004 ( 4 )

Hola! I just got back from a Mexican cruise which was awsome…and Andrew just let me join this blog, which should be interesting. I hope everyones having a great break…and that I can be interesting as Andrew instructed me to be…it may take some work.

Anyways my first topic…the “intellectual discussion club.” First of all I’d like to apologize to Andrew and Ian for being so um…harsh in my blog, I didn’t mean any offense. I just find the whole idea really amusing. And on to the actual description of this idea…the intellectual discussion club is to consist of a group of people who will -intelectually discuss- various topics which are in truth completely pointless and have no meaning. In other words, good practice for debates while being completely amused at the same time! It’s brilliant…it really is… Now if you guys could just get it started, it actually could be some fun. ***Ian…You cannot prove that there is a planet made out of pot…get over it!!!*** (our first topic)
I shall be back later…Senor Sutherland is it interestante enough?
